Kadence Mulligan’s star was rising. She and her best friend, Lauren DeSanto, watched their songs go viral on YouTube, then launched a solo career when a nasty throat infection paralyzed Lauren’s vocal chords. Everyone knows Lauren and Kadence had a major falling-out over Kady’s boyfriend. But Lauren knows how deceptive Kadence could be sometimes. And nobody believes Lauren when she claims she had nothing to do with the disappearance. Or the blood evidence…

As the town and local media condemns Lauren, she realizes the only way to clear her name is to discover the truth herself. Lauren slowly unravels the twisted life of Kadence Mulligan and finds there was more to her than she ever knew. But will she realize she’s unknowingly playing a part in an elaborate game to cover up a crime before it's too late?

Mystery, something about it really makes me lose my mind. In a good way. I enjoy novels that keep me on my toes, allowing me to think, second-guess myself, quadruple-guess myself even. Girl Last Seen does exactly that. Right when you think you can follow the train, something swipes right on by and spins the mystery element right on its head.

Web sensation Kadence made it big on Youtube with her best friend, Lauren, making music and perfecting the art of the sweet teens from off the grid of where one is likely to find teen talent, Minnesota. Yet, stardom and popularity does many things to these two best friends, much of it ugly. Now Kadence is missing. Lauren doesn't look so innocent. And dark secrets begin to uncover themselves as the race to find Kady is on, before the town finds their web-star in a precarious position. Or worse.

The anticipation and raw adrenaline that drives Last Girl Seen is this novel's strongest element. A mystery needs a grab at the reader, and though it might not be CSI, these two authors teamed together to right a riveting novel. Fans of the Pretty Little Liars series and crime television shows will eat this book up. Told from multiple perspectives, the lies and drama knot themselves up chapter after chapter until you are guessing who is actually guilty and innocent. Between trips to the police station, webcam scenes, undercover detective work, and flashbacks, there is more to Last Girl Seen than meets the eye. Aside from Lauren's character trait of acting one-hundred percent guilty one-hundred percent of the time and the tiresome jumps between narratives and media, I recommend Last Girl Seen to those who love figuring out the mystery and getting caught in the guessing loop until the very end. It messes with your mind, this story, and it is addicting how anxious this novel made me. I was nervous to turn the page!
Three targets for thickening the plot

"Endlessly twisty, this deliberate head trip will keep readers guessing until the very end. The kind of dark, wild ride that begs to read in a single sitting." Kirkus Reviews, January 1, 2016
"A sexy, fascinating, fast-paced, and darkly dynamic mystery for teens.” School Library Journal, January 2016

"Bold, intriguing, and full of surprises. It's the kind of book that haunts you long after you put it down. I've read nothing like this before; a mystery to the very last page, defined by intense and tragic relationships, and warmed by the connections formed in a shared mission. I thoroughly enjoyed this." Kristen Simmons, author of "Article 5" and "The Glass Arrow"
